Delhi saw a charming evening filled with laughter, stories, and a touch of mystery as There’s a Ghost in My Room: Living with the Supernatural — the first book by Sanjoy K. Roy — was launched by HarperCollins India. The event took place “Under the Banyan Tree” at 1AQ near Qutub Minar, setting the perfect mood for a book about ghostly experiences.
Sanjoy K. Roy, who leads Teamwork Arts — the group behind the Jaipur Literature Festival — welcomed guests from Delhi’s art and culture circle. The main highlight of the night was when actress Sharmila Tagore, a close friend of Roy, unveiled the book. She later joined him in a warm conversation with writer Mrinal Pande, where they spoke about the stories that shaped his unusual and fascinating encounters with the unknown.
The setup looked magical, with the Qutub Minar glowing softly in the background and the banyan tree adding its quiet charm. The evening carried the same calm, curious energy that runs through Roy’s book. There’s a Ghost in My Room shares his real-life experiences — from his childhood home in Kolkata to his later years in Delhi — where strange and unexplained things became part of everyday life.
Sharmila Tagore shared her thoughts at the launch, saying,
“Sanjoy and his team have always been so warm and welcoming. It’s wonderful to see him write about something so unique and personal.”
Roy, speaking about what inspired him, said,
“These stories live somewhere between what we understand and what we don’t.”
Udayan Mitra, Executive Publisher at HarperCollins India, also praised the book, saying that Roy’s wide experience in theatre, advertising, and art gives his writing a special spark.
By the end of the night, as guests chatted and laughed under the banyan tree, it felt less like a formal event and more like an evening of shared curiosity — a reminder that life still holds a few secrets beyond what we can see.
